How do I curl hair that's tough to curl?

I've always loved curling my hair, but it never stays. I've tried curling irons and hot rollers (is that what they're called?) but my hair straightens in a matter of minutes. The only time it ever stayed was when I got it done professionally, but that costs too much! Any advice?

How do I curl hair that's tough to curl?

I know the manuals say not to do this, but you really must:

After you dry your hair a bit (not all the way dry, it should still be a little damp), put mousse or other styling product in it. Comb or brush through your damp hair.

Then, you can either use a round brush while your're blowdrying, or you can simply curl your damp hair. The curl should stick well, if you used enough mousse/product. Some steam/hissing will happen -- don't worry about it.

When you're done curling, DO NOT muss or touch your hair too much. Just tousle it a bit, shake it out, spray your head all over with hairspray (don't skimp!). You're good to go.
