If you want to get your hair straightened, is it a kind of perm? How do they straighten it?

Also, about how much does it cost and how long will it last? Thanks!

You can heat straighten your hair or you can chemically straighten your hair. I would advise you to either press your hair with a hot comb or a flat iron but if you are really determined to to have it done chemically, you will need to have it touched up ever 4-6 weeks (only the new growth). You can buy the stuff yourself and do it, which I would NOT advise since you've never permed your hair before. If you go to a salon and have it done it could range anywhere from $40-$100. Be sure that the person doing your hair has experience with perming hair and your texture of hair. Don't scratch your head for at least a week before you plan to have it done and if it burns, say something. IT SHOULD NOT BURN!. Do your research. Once you perm your hair, you will have to continue perming it or you will have to cut it off or let it grow out. That hair will always be straight and will not revert to it's original texture. Only the new growth will be your original texture. Make an informed decision before you do this. Good luck!

Getting your hair permantly straightened is called a Tamer. It costs about the same as a perm. But I would just recommend you buy a nice cermanic flat iron that way you have more options than just straight and you never know how the tamer will turn out. It dries hair out a lot.

It depends on your ethnic background. For example, getting a a "relaxer" is different process for african type hair versus anglo type hair. So what are you?

I've had my hair straightened a few times, with different products and results. The last time, I had the salon use the CHI product line.

They apply the product and continue to comb and smooth your hair down while you're waiting for the solution to work its magic.

CHI was incredible, my hair was stick-straight even after after showering, without blowdrying or any other product. CHI cost me $300.00, but on my naturally spiral hair lasted about 4 months.

Good luck to you!

They kinda do the same thing as a perm, but straighten it..... if you don't get a perm, and you do regular straightenings..... remember, don't straighten it tooooo much, if you straughten it toooo much, it begins to thin out your hair, and burn it, so, it looks and becomes realllly unhealthy. So, if you do straighten it, don't do it daily, and use a hair therapy (hair repair) shampoo.
