I have naturally very curly hair, and one year for Christmas I got a hair straightener. I quickly became an addict, and for the next TWO YEARS I straightened my hair almost every day. I even brought my straightener with me on all overnight trips and vacations.
Then one fine day, I decided to take a break from my beloved straightener. But alas, my curls were gone even without the tools!
For the last two months I haven't touched my hair until it was totally dry, I just let it do it's thing. But my curls STILL haven't come back! I was wondering if there's anything I can possibly do to bring my hair's true identity back? Other than, of course, waiting for my hair to grow out, which would take years?

It sounds like from doing this every day you actually burned out the curls. I doubt there's anything you can do to bring them back except to let your hair grow out. If by letting your hair dry naturally and they didn't curl up, then it's gone.

WOW! Wish that would happen to me! But I know what you mean, bc I used to have really tight curls, and several years ago, I started sort of pulling it straight with my fingers after putting product in it, and the curls would be much much looser, and now it's always like that. But I have heard that due to hormones, a woman's hair changes texture an average of seven times in a lifetime, so maybe your hair just changed.

You are cured, Sell this idea on the internet and allow all other "naturally curly haired " people to become normal.
(Market it in the same way that lets "Gingers" dye their hair).

i have very curly hair and became addicted to a straightener also.
it messed my hair up, it caused breakage and just looks dumb now!
my hair has done the same, it isnt as curly as it used to be, but its so used to going straight that it doesnt want to curl like it used to.
if you want your curly hair back id say just completely stop w the straightener for a few weeks and the should come back!

We can do tremendous damage by using chemical dyes and permanents as well as by simply aiming the blow dryer at our heads every morning. Like being in the sun, all of these self-inflicted abuses destroy the cuticle and leave hair wide open to damage. Pulling hair into tight braids or ponytails can increase that stress and lead to breakage鈥攐r even bald spots. But in addition to being a cue that you need to treat you hair more carefully, unhealthy strands can also be an indicator of an unhealthy diet. Without adequate protein, growing hair strands won鈥檛 become as strong and resilient as they should be. And essential fatty acids (found in fish oil supplements, wild salmon, and flax seeds) may also play a role in keeping strands strong, shiny and healthy. If your diet is lacking in them, try increasing your consumption and see if your hair eats it up! Of course, what you eat can only impact hair that is just starting to grow, so it will be several months before any improvements are evident.
